Viking Age Studies engages in research of medieval literary sources with an interdisciplinary approach, including the visual and liberal arts, and creates presentations of the collected information in multimedia formats.

Emphasis is placed on Old Norse mythology and pre-Christian religion; however, the scope of study includes many topics found in Old Icelandic saga literature.

Of particular interest is the intersection of Old Norse literature with Viking Age art and how these combined sources can more closely reveal an understanding of pre-Christian Scandinavian society.

In recent times, writers and other media producers have repeatedly drawn from themes of oral tradition recorded primarily by medieval Icelanders who sought to preserve the tales of their ancestors. Viking Age Studies urges those interested in these narratives to discover the Old Norse sources of inspiration for motifs used in popular productions.
